Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to work with the acute inpatient orthopaedic Physiotherapy team as a senior physiotherapy assistant. This full time role is based at St Marys Hospital on the Isle of Wight.

You will be part of a team working with patients who have had planned orthopaedic surgery, as well as supporting the physiotherapy team as they deliver high quality care to patients as a result of orthopaedic trauma. You will work alongside registered physiotherapy staff and with the wider multi disciplinary teams.


Main duties of the job

This role will require you to be able to work in a fast paced and, at times, pressured environment. You will be calm under pressure and able to be adaptable and organised. You will be working directly with inpatients and supporting them after surgery to get walking again and prepare them for discharge home.

You will have strong communication skills and be comfortable educating patients and families and have strong IT skills.

Qualifications


Essential

* *A-Level qualifications or equivalent (e.g. NVQ 3); Health & Social Care NVQ level III or above experience
* *Care certificate completion within the first 6-12 months of employment if new to the Trust
* *English and Maths GCE/GCSE or equivalent Grade C or above or equivalent qualification to demonstrate numeracy and literacy
* *Have evidence of a general understanding of the conditions likely to be managed within the Physiotherapy specialism being supported
* *Computer literate with demonstrated ability to autonomously, effectively and efficiently use Microsoft office suite and intranet/internet
* *Demonstrated ability to utilise data bases autonomously
* *An understanding of Rehabilitation and human anatomy and physiology.
* *An understanding of safeguarding and data protection policies.


Desirable

* *CPD relevant to the profession
* *Exercise Class knowledge
* *Confident leading educational /exercise classes
* *Completion or commencement of The Care Certificate.
* *Capable of inducting new B3 Assistants
* *Assist registered staff in student placements
* *Supervise B3 and below
* *Have a clear understanding/ knowledge of the team processes underpinning the Physiotherapy Specialism

* *Evidence of experience working within physiotherapy field (such as work experience/observation sessions) or working within related therapy fields e.g. occupational therapy, sports therapy, holistic therapies, nursing

* *Broad experience of care provision and evidence of in-house training at band 3 level within the NHS.
