As the Electricity System Operator (ESO) for Great Britain, we are in a privileged position. We sit at the heart of the energy system, balancing electricity supply and demand second by second. Together with industry stakeholders, we ensure the stability and resilience of the energy network.
Position: Resilience Manager
You will lead a team of approximately 10 Resilience Engineers and Analysts. This team will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify risks, enhance resilience, and minimize disruptions through proactive measures and effective incident response.
1. Key Accountabilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
* Defining and managing system-wide resilience risks and establishing mitigation strategies for risks outside of acceptable thresholds.
* Coordinating team activities and contributing to climate resilience initiatives and standards development.
* Delivering the annual system risk report to DESNZ/Ofgem in compliance with licensing obligations.
* Providing regular updates to senior stakeholders on resilience controls, their effectiveness, risks, and mitigation plans.
* Representing the ESO at external forums such as the Electricity Task Group and E3C as a resilience expert.
* Fostering a high-performance culture with engaged team members who understand their value to the organization.
* Building strong relationships with stakeholders and customers, managing interface issues promptly.
* Developing team members to enhance performance and support career progression.
2. Knowledge, Experience & Technical Skills
* Understanding of risk and control frameworks related to system operations.
* Knowledge of electricity/gas system operation.
* Experience across different utilities within the energy sector, with a broad understanding of the whole energy system.
* Familiarity with Electricity Licence, Codes, and framework agreements.
* Knowledge of electricity market operations, Balancing schemes, and the Balancing Settlement Code.
* Ability to build and maintain industry networks, managing conflicting interests effectively.
Essential Qualification (at appointment): Relevant professional experience, engineering degree or a STEM degree, or equivalent operational experience.
