Rochdale
Salary: £20.71/hr (early shift) to £22.43/hr (late shift)
OTE: Up to £50,000 (including overtime and shift premiums)
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and forward-thinking engineering company in Rochdale, known for excellence in machinery design and manufacture.
Due to continued expansion, they are seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters to join their team on a permanent basis in 2026.
Mechanical Fitter Working Hours & Shifts (Monday–Friday, rotating)
Shift A:
Mon–Thu 06:00–15:45, Fri 10:00–15:00 (20% premium)
Shift B (Option 1):
Mon–Thu 15:30–01:15 (30% premium)
Shift B (Option 2):
Mon–Thu 15:30–00:00, Fri 10:00–15:00 (30% premium)
Minimum of 6 hours overtime per week is required to meet business needs.
Mechanical Fitter Key Responsibilities
Assemble complex machinery to specification and within defined build times
Modify and fabricate components as required
Service and repair mechanical systems and heavy plant equipment
Provide occasional on-site support at customer locations
Meet production targets while maintaining quality standards
Mentor junior staff and apprentices
Complete documentation including Test Certificates and Packing Sheets
Mechanical Fitter Requirements
Proven experience in mechanical fitting
Ability to read and work from technical drawings
Skilled in drilling, tapping, and basic machining
Strong focus on quality, safety, and attention to detail
Excellent reliability and timekeeping
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong Health & Safety awareness
Mechanical Fitter Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
Time-served Mechanical Fitter preferred
HNC qualification advantageous
Benefits
Base salary: £40,384 per annum
Overtime rates:
Weekdays: 1.33x
Over 10 hours/week: 1.5x
Saturday: 1.5x
Sunday: 2x
37-hour working week
