Location: Ipswich, 2 to 3 days in the office per week, remainder from home.
About the role
An SME consultancy renowned for high-quality planning and commercial support on rail civil engineering projects is looking for a Planner to embed within a client office in Ipswich. You’ll support major UK infrastructure programmes across heavy civils, working shoulder-to-shoulder with delivery partners and client stakeholders. The work spans early design through to delivery and handover, with a strong focus on NEC change control, robust programme controls and clear, insightful reporting.
Essential Requirements
* 3–5 years of planning experience within main contractor or subcontractor environments, focusing on heavy civil infrastructure projects ideally in rail, however also open to highways, nuclear, water, etc. civil project experience.
* Proficiency in Primavera P6; familiarity with MS Project is advantageous.
* Strong understanding of NEC contracts, particularly concerning change management and compensation events.
* Experience with forensic delay analysis.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly.
* A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and manage detailed project programmes using Primavera P6, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.
* Conduct forensic delay analyses and assess compensation events in accordance with NEC contract provisions.
* Collaborate with commercial teams to provide insights on change management and risk mitigation strategies.
* Engage with clients to review subcontractor programmes, offering recommendations on acceptance and identifying potential issues.
* Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate planning insights to stakeholders.
The selection process includes an initial interview (either face-to-face or via Teams), followed by a second-stage interview to assess technical competencies and cultural fit.
