An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time band 7 Urology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist position at Worthing Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. Applications are welcomed from staff currently at B6 level seeking development opportunities.
The successful applicant will be an integral part of the CNS and wider urology team, involved in all aspects of the patient pathway from diagnosis and treatment to follow-up, supporting patients living with urological cancer diagnoses.
The ideal candidate will be eager to advance their clinical and leadership skills, take on extended roles, and contribute to service development. They should be dynamic, forward-thinking, hardworking, and ready to meet the challenges faced in cancer care.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical excellence, leadership, innovation, and mastery within a specialty or group of specialties through highly developed specialist knowledge. Responsibilities include providing specialist information and support for patients and carers during diagnosis and treatment, ensuring psychological assessments and interventions as necessary, supporting multidisciplinary teams to ensure a timely patient journey, training and upskilling other teams, coordinating pathways in collaboration with the cancer centre, managing cancer and treatment effects, setting and maintaining high standards, and developing care plans through Holistic Needs Assessments.

Job responsibilities
The post involves line management responsibility for a Band 6 Urology Nurse Specialist (where in post), alternating with other Band 7 Urology CNSs. The post-holder will also promote staff and student development and be a member of the senior nursing team within Cancer Services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities - Communication
Act as a key worker for patients, ensuring a single point of contact throughout their complex pathway.
Communicate confidently, assertively, and respectfully with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
Build relationships through an engaging, personable, and approachable style.
Work autonomously within Urology cancer, often alone, making complex decisions.
Engage in complex conversations with patients and carers, considering learning needs and mental capacity, using advanced communication skills.
Manage distressing situations effectively.
Utilize negotiation and conflict resolution skills in challenging situations.
Serve as a core communication member during local and regional MDT meetings and act as a patient advocate.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Degree-level education or equivalent professional knowledge, supplemented by specialist training and experience, possibly up to master's level
* Specialist qualification in oncology or related field
* Teaching qualification
* Leadership development qualification
* Master's Degree
* Nurse prescribing course
* Level 2 Psychological assessment training
* Advanced communication skills training
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience in implementing change in practice
* Knowledge of risk management and clinical governance
* Experience at Band 6 minimum
* Advanced clinical competencies including ACST
* Experience supporting patients through bad news
* Teaching patients, staff, and carers in a complex specialist field
* Experience at Band 7 or above discussing DNACPR or advanced care planning
* Experience setting up nurse-led clinics/services
