Job Summary
We are seeking an exceptional and motivated senior nurse leader to join our organisation in a unique combined role. The post brings together strategic leadership responsibilities as Director of Nursing (Band 8c) with a hands‑on clinical position as either a Senior Practice Nurse (Band 7) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Band 8a) depending on qualifications and experience. This role offers a rare opportunity to lead, shape and strengthen nursing services across our four practice sites, ensuring consistently high standards of safe, person‑centred and effective care.
Key Working Pattern
Director of Nursing – 12 hours per week (Fixed‑Term, 12 months).
Clinical (Practice Nurse/ANP) – 25.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities
* Director of Nursing (Band 8c) – Senior clinical leadership across the organisation, working closely with the executive/management team to maintain high standards of nursing practice, quality and patient safety. Key duties include:
o Leading the nursing workforce and supporting professional development.
o Overseeing clinical governance, quality assurance and risk management.
o Contributing to organisational strategy and regulatory compliance.
o Championing evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement.
o Supporting workforce planning, recruitment and retention initiatives.
o Providing inspiring leadership to the nursing and clinical teams.
o Overseeing nurse education, development and workforce planning.
o Supporting innovation, clinical effectiveness and service improvement.
o Ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and upholding high standards of patient care.
o Working collaboratively with senior management, GPs and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver strategic priorities.
* Practice Nurse (Band 7) – Routine treatment room duties (wound care, cervical cytology, vaccinations, long‑term condition support); health promotion and chronic disease management (diabetes, COPD, hypertension, heart failure, mental health); supporting QOF and practice‑wide clinical objectives; delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
* Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Band 8a) – Autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis and management; acute presentations and same‑day appointment provision; prescribing (independent prescriber qualification required); managing complex long‑term conditions; contributing to clinical leadership within the practice.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Nurse (NMC) with significant primary‑care experience.
* Significant senior leadership experience in healthcare.
* Proven record of improving clinical standards and supporting nursing teams.
* Confident lead of teams, influencing change and improving services.
* Skilled in clinical governance, quality assurance and patient safety.
* Strong communicator with a collaborative, compassionate approach.
* Confident managing both operational and strategic responsibilities.
* Leadership or supervisory experience essential; prior senior management experience desirable.
* For ANP applicants: Masters‑level qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice (or equivalent) and independent prescribing qualification.
