SEMH Sports Coach – Christchurch (Ages 11-16)

A specialist SEMH school in Christchurch is seeking a resilient and engaging Sports Coach to support pupils aged 11-16 who have an EHCP with a primary need of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). The school also supports learners with co‑occurring needs including ADHD, PDA, ODD and some with ASC where it is an additional need.
Pupils respond well to structure, movement and trusted relationships, making sport a key tool for engagement and emotional regulation.

Your Role
As an SEMH Sports Coach, you will:
5. Support SEMH learners with social, emotional and behavioural needs
6. Deliver and assist with PE, sports and movement‑based sessions
7. Use physical activity to build confidence, resilience and engagement
8. Manage behaviour with empathy, consistency and clear boundaries
9. Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils and staff
10. Encourage emotional regulation, positive routines and personal growth
This role suits sports coaches, youth workers, psychology graduates, PE specialists and individuals with lived experience of SEMH.

What You’ll Need
15. A caring, patient and adaptable approach
16. Strong communication and teamwork skills
17. Experience with SEMH or SEND is beneficial but not essential
18. Right to work in the UK
19. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
20. References covering the last 24 months
