The Energy Manager will be part of the Carbon Net Zero Team based within the Estates and Campus Facilities Division. The Carbon Net Zero Team are a major contributor to delivering the University's commitment to be zero carbon for scope 1 and 2 by 2023. This role will assist with managing the with the work relating to reducing scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions. Your new role The Energy Manager is responsible for providing professional advice and guidance on the reduction of energy consumption and carbon impact of the university buildings. The role holder will be responsible for managing the university's utilities and energy usage, seeking to reduce costs, consumption, carbon emissions and our environmental impact on an ongoing basis. Key responsibilities: Lead the day-to-day management of the University's utilities budget and consumption, including procurement, metering, bill validation, recharging, forecasting, and reporting. Lead the design, delivery, and management of the utility metering strategy, maintaining an accurate and up to date database of metering data for energy and carbon monitoring and reporting. Undertake detailed energy consumption profile and utility analysis to identify anomalies and provide recommendations for efficiency improvements. Undertake building energy audits to identify energy savings opportunities and assist with the preparation of business cases to gain support for financial investment. Create, manage, and review utilities forecasts, accruals, budgets, and other financial reporting as required, including the internal and external charging for utilities to ensure utility costs are being recouped appropriately. Be a subject matter expert for all aspects of utility management and energy procurement across the university, ensuring value for money is achieved through our energy contracts. Chair the University Energy Risk Management Group and maintain an awareness of current utility market intelligence, best practice, and innovations. Assist in the planning, development and implementation of our net zero roadmap in respect to energy management, utility procurement and utility reduction projects. Operational duties: Establish and monitor key performance indicators for energy and water management. Regularly review performance against carbon and utility reduction targets as well as internal and external benchmarks. Develop and maintain effective systems, to ensure the university's legal compliance with energy/carbon related schemes as necessary. Manage and maintain Display Energy Certificates and Energy Performance Certificates across all relevant campus buildings. What you'll need to succeed A Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience and demonstrable experience in utility management and energy procurement. Evidence of developing and delivering energy metering within a complex estate. Evidence of identifying energy inefficiencies and successfully implementing energy efficiency measures to achieve savings. Experience of utility forecasting and budgeting for a large organisation. Extensive experience in analysing complex energy data. Experience in undertaking energy audits and proactively identifying and delivering energy efficiency measures. Experience in developing and implementing strategy and policy Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Experience of leading partnership working with internal and external stakeholders to reach an agreed objective.
