Our client is a well-established charity based in London seeking an experienced General Counsel to join their team on a fixed term contract until April 2026.
This is a pivotal role providing strategic legal support across the organisation, ensuring compliance with charity law, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements. The role will suit an individual who has previously operated as a General Counsel or Head of Legal within the charity or not-for-profit sector and is immediately available to start.
💥 As General Counsel, you will:
* Provide strategic legal advice to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board of Trustees on all legal, governance, and regulatory matters.
* Ensure compliance with Charity Commission regulations, Companies House, and relevant UK legislation.
* Oversee contract drafting and negotiation for suppliers, funders, and partner organisations.
* Manage legal risk and implement frameworks for effective risk mitigation.
* Support the development and review of organisational policies relating to data protection, safeguarding, and governance.
* Liaise with external legal advisors and manage relationships to ensure cost-effective support.
* Provide guidance on employment law, intellectual property, and data privacy issues where appropriate.
💥 What we’re looking for:
* Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (England & Wales).
* Proven experience as a General Counsel or Head of Legal within a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
* Strong understanding of charity law, governance, and regulatory compliance.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice.
* Comfortable working remotely and managing multiple priorities independently.
* Immediate availability or short notice period is essential.
