As part of our continued growth and evolution, we’re investing further in our Finance Team. We’re now on the lookout for a Management Accountant who can bring accuracy, commercial insight, and financial control to help take us to the next level. Brief Overview
Permanent Opportunity: Full Time
Basic Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Birmingham, B2
Requirements
Monthly Management Accounts: Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
Variance Analysis: Conduct variance analysis to explain deviations from budget and forecast, providing insightful commentary to stakeholders.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual budgets and rolling forecasts to support business planning and decision-making.
Cost Control: Monitor business costs and margins, identifying areas for improvement and supporting operational efficiency initiatives.
Financial Reporting: Deliver financial performance reports to internal stakeholders, ensuring clarity and actionable insights are provided.
Business Partnering: Work closely with departmental heads to support financial understanding, challenge assumptions, and guide decision-making.
Month-End Close: Oversee and support the month-end close process, ensuring all journals, accruals, and prepayments are accurately accounted for.
Audit & Compliance: Support external auditors and ensure all compliance obligations and financial controls are adhered to.
Process Improvement: Continuously identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. To have the ability to contribute to The Fuel Store’s success, you will need:
Professional Experience: Proven experience as a Management Accountant or similar role within a fast-paced, commercially driven environment.
Qualifications: Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
Financial Systems Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.) and experience with accounting systems (e.g., Xero, Sage, NetSuite).
Analytical Mindset: Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and diligence in all areas of financial reporting and analysis.
Commercial Awareness: A strong understanding of financial performance drivers, particularly in an SME or growth business context.
Organisation & Time Management: Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities with minimal supervision. Along with having the right experience, a Fueller will have:
Strong motivation to work in a fast-paced environment
An understanding of or interest in emerging technologies, including AI-driven analytics to support data-informed decision-making
Great aptitude for overcoming challenges with a naturally inquisitive mind
Ability to challenge the status quo; actively seeking to understand HOW something works, not just WHY
Resilience and the ability to focus on the detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
Ability to work hard as an individual while adding value to the wider team
Excellent communication skills and confidence in interacting with all stakeholders
Logical and data-led decision-making skills

A commercial mindset and appetite for growth
