Job Summary
As a Principal Research Engineer, you will leverage your deep specialist knowledge, detailed product knowledge, and business awareness to shape research and development projects in the TRL1-6 range, including demonstrator and insertion projects. You have a proven track record of innovation, leading complex technical work, and maintaining a professional network. Your experience and critical thinking skills enable you to plan and lead technical work within your field and engage confidently with stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
You will act as a Technology Leader within the R&T department, developing technologies, methods, and future product solutions. Responsibilities include defining technical activities, leading technology integration, setting technical direction, owning the Technology Development Plan, specifying validation needs, identifying new opportunities, facilitating decision-making, and mentoring junior team members. You should have 15+ years of experience in developing technology/products for jet engines or similar, leading multidisciplinary teams, and possess strong domain knowledge in gas turbines, CFD, thermal disciplines, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Job Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a comprehensive awareness of your field outside GKN, a strong engineering/technology knowledge base, design and systems thinking, critical reasoning, and a track record of executing complex activities. You should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience; a higher degree (Masters or PhD) is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with the ability to influence and represent GKN at high levels.
