The Band 7 Substance Misuse Nurse at the Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a senior nursing specialist role responsible for delivering expert assessment, clinical care, and care co‑ordination for patients with drug and alcohol misuse issues within the hospital setting. This role is clinical, autonomous, and leadership‑focused, bridging acute care with community treatment pathways and supporting multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, person‑centred care.
Clinical Practice
* Perform comprehensive assessment of patient nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health care needs.
* Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records.
* Involve patients and carers/relatives in the planning and delivery of care.
* Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
* Prescribe medications within agreed protocols.
* Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives.
Professional Leadership
* Provide specialist, expert clinical knowledge to clinical colleagues, patients and carers/relatives.
* Undertake clinical supervision of nursing colleagues on an individual or group basis.
* Participate in the development of services and assist the Ward Manager/Matron to implement change.
* Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources.
* Monitor health, safety and security of self and others and promote best practice in the ward area.
Education and Development
* Provide education and development opportunities for others.
* Develop own “expert” clinical knowledge and participate in the development of others' clinical knowledge.
* Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regards to mandatory training and PREP requirements.
