We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated PRU Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit in Manchester, starting as soon as possible. Staff work closely together to provide targeted support to pupils who have struggled in mainstream education due to behavioural, social, or emotional difficulties. The Role As a PRU Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils. You will assist in implementing personalised learning plans, monitor pupil progress, and provide pastoral support to help pupils manage their behaviour, emotions, and social interactions. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, structured, and positive learning environment. You will also liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated support for each pupil, contributing to strategies that help them overcome barriers to learning and re-integrate into mainstream education where appropriate. Key Responsibilities Support teaching and learning for pupils in a PRU setting Assist with implementing personalised learning plans and interventions Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with behavioural, social, or emotional needs Promote independence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours Observe, record, and report on pupil progress to teachers and senior staff Collaborate with teachers, colleagues, and external professionals Help manage behaviour and support pupils’ social and emotional development Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and unit initiatives Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have previous experience supporting pupils with behavioural, social, or emotional needs Be patient, empathetic, and resilient Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, adaptable, and able to work independently Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil welfare Location The PRU is located in Manchester, with excellent transport links.
