Job Description
The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed‑term Senior Advisor for Energy sectors (up to 2 years). The role involves regulation of combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries to support the UK’s Net Zero strategy.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
* Develop strategy and tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, industry associations and other key players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support.
* Develop and maintain best practices and strategic direction for the energy sector.
Qualifications
* Experience in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
* Technical and regulatory knowledge, including control measures for emissions.
* Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with regulators, government and industry.
* Teamworking skills and ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals.
Required Experience
* Demonstrated experience of working with diverse stakeholders.
* Knowledge of statutory environmental and technical requirements.
* Experience of commissioning and managing research projects.
Contract & Location
Fixed‑term contract of up to 2 years. The role is based in Birmingham, with occasional travel required.
