Purpose: The mortgage Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving growth and expanding the mortgage business by developing relationships with mortgage intermediaries, networks, clubs, and other key partners to promote the Society’s lending proposition to generate new enquiries and applications.
Key Responsibilities:
· · Develop and maintain highly effective, long-term relationships with existing and prospective mortgage intermediaries (brokers, networks, clubs, packagers)
· Proactively identify and convert new profitable business opportunities and sources of lending within your assigned panel
· Signposting brokers to the website highlighting the tools and guides available to educate and support them
· Conduct regular face-to-face and virtual meetings/visits with intermediaries to promote the societies mortgage products, lending criteria and service proposition
· Developing the Society profile and increasing the Society’s intermediary market share
· Researching and feeding back industry news and trends, sharing broker feedback, product initiatives and market intelligence with the Commercial Managers
· Maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge or the mortgage market, industry regulations and the Society’s products and policies
· Ensure a robust pipeline of high-quality mortgage applications is maintained
· Work collaboratively with internal teams, including, Underwriting, Marketing and Intermediary Support to ensure seamless service delivery and case progression
· Work with the Commercial Manager to drive the Society’s sales and distribution strategy
Knowledge, skill and qualification requirements:
· Proven experience as a Business Development Manager or in a similar field-based sales/relationship management role within the mortgage industry (essential)
· Excellent working knowledge of the mortgage intermediary market, lending criteria, and the mortgage application process, ideally within the Building Society or Specialist Lender environment
· A track record or consistently achieving and exceeding sales targets
· Exceptional relationship-building, communication, presentation and negotiation skills
· Strong problem-solving abilities and a solution orientated mindset, particularly when dealing with complex cases
· Highly self-motivated, target driven and organised, with the ability to manage a diverse workload independently
· Full UK driving license and willingness to travel extensively
Desirable: CeMAP qualified / CeMAP Diploma or willing to study
Regulation or legislation relating to this role
· Maintain a working knowledge of the legislative, regulatory and financial framework in which the Society operates.
· Demonstratable knowledge and understanding of regulations including MCOB and its implications to our business.
