About the Opportunity
We are supporting a well-established freight forwarding business in their search for an experienced Ocean Freight Forwarder to join their operations team in Tyseley. This is a busy and varied role, focused on ocean freight coordination, international shipment management, and UK customs processes, with some involvement in wider multimodal logistics activity.
You will be responsible for managing shipments from origin to destination, working closely with overseas agents, carriers, and customers to ensure freight movements are completed smoothly, efficiently, and in line with required timelines.
This role would suit someone who is confident handling end-to-end freight operations and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
Key Responsibilities
Manage ocean freight shipments (predominantly FCL) from booking through to delivery
Coordinate international shipments with overseas agents and transport partners
Arrange vessel bookings and oversee cargo collections where required
Handle and check shipping documentation including Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists
Provide regular updates to customers on shipment progress and status
Track shipments and resolve any operational issues or delays
Manage shipment costing, including supplier invoices, customer billing, and related charges
Support customs clearance activities for UK import and export shipments
Ensure compliance with relevant customs procedures and documentation requirements
Raise supporting trade documentation such as Certificates of Origin and EUR1s where required
Assist with general multimodal freight forwarding operations when needed
Maintain accurate shipment data within internal systems
Essential
Previous experience in ocean freight forwarding (FCL experience preferred)
Ability to manage shipments independently from start to finish
Good understanding of UK import and export customs procedures
Experience working with shipping documentation
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Confident communicator, able to liaise with customers and overseas partners
Comfortable working in a fast-paced operations environment
Strong IT skills and ability to learn new systems
