Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker, Horsham (Homes), UK
Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Starting Salary: Base salary of £X, with potential to earn up to £Y, including sleep-in shifts
Salary after probation: Same as starting salary
Apple Orchard operates five homes in Surrey and West Sussex, each set in rural locations, providing a homely environment for young males aged X-Y years.
Our aim is to support young people in understanding their experiences and overcoming past trauma by setting clear boundaries and achievable goals, using positive reinforcement strategies like reward charts and free time.
We prioritize providing nurturing care to meet all basic needs, fostering a warm, friendly atmosphere that promotes supportive relationships and positive attachments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Lead in ensuring the care and welfare of each child, supporting their development and helping them reach full potential.
* Plan and prepare activities that meet the needs of young people and promote their learning and integration.
* Stay informed of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure compliance with the Children’s Act, children’s homes regulations, and national standards, including Ofsted guidance.
* Support and lead Residential Support Workers, ensuring policy adherence and risk assessments.
* Observe and record young people's progress, achievements, and significant events, maintaining up-to-date life books for those in your keyworking responsibility.
* Collaborate with local authorities to ensure outstanding care.
* Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers to support young people's development, involving them appropriately.
* Be flexible to undertake domestic tasks such as meal prep, cleaning, and shopping as needed.
* Work closely with the manager and team to uphold the home's philosophy and raise concerns when necessary.
* Maintain clear, legible records, distinguishing facts, opinions, and third-party information.
Essential Skills:
* Experience working with teenage boys or challenging behavior, with a willingness to develop further.
* Hold a valid driving license and have access to a vehicle; public transport may not be viable due to rural location.
* Possess or be willing to work towards relevant qualifications such as Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma, NVQ Level in Health & Social Care, etc.
* Willing to engage young people in activities and support their journey towards independence and adulthood.
* Flexible working hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and shift work, with every other weekend off.
* Ability to challenge unacceptable behavior, set firm boundaries, and provide individual care.
* Teamwork skills, adherence to delegated tasks, and good communication skills.
