HGV Class 2 Drainage Engineer – Lanes Group
We are seeking a customer‑focused drainage engineer for our Thames Water contract. This role involves travel to residential sites, operating a high‑pressure water jet to restore drainage, maintaining and diagnosing drains, and delivering excellent customer service while adhering to safety requirements.
Position Details
* Location: Iver Depot, Mogden Region (Colnbrook, Berkshire)
* Job type: Permanent, full‑time
* Hours: 4 days on – 4 days off, average 40.25 hours per week, flexible with weekends and an on‑call rota
* Salary: OTE £50,000 per annum (basic pay, overtime, on‑call allowance and bonuses)

Key Responsibilities
* Travel to residential sites via HGV in a two‑person team, operating a high‑pressure water jet for restoration
* Clean, clear and maintain drainage systems
* Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment
* Run diagnostics and repairs on drains
* Deliver excellent customer service
* Maintain good health and safety practice while carrying out works
* Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished
* Comply with health and safety responsibilities, including PPE and safe site set‑ups
* Utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms
* Operate JHL specification vacuum tankers and associated equipment
* Safely access vehicle cabs, sites and offices using correct procedures
* Manipulate flexible pipework safely using correct manual handling techniques
* Work unsupervised in all weather conditions, wearing correct PPE or utilising the lone worker system
* Dynamically risk assess site access and working conditions
* Liaise with the client regarding process and updates
* Provide support to colleagues
* Conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use
* Report any defects or malfunctions
* Carry out risk assessments and maintain a mature approach to risk perception
* Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and responsibilities
* Perform any other reasonable ad‑hoc tasks, duties or projects as requested by management
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Valid HGV Class 2 licence with a completed Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
* Up‑to‑date digital tachograph card
* Hard working, respectful and compliant with health and safety standards
* Experience with high‑pressure jetting is useful but not essential
* Other drainage qualifications (e.g., NRSWA, confined spaces) are an advantage
* Ability to work safely, diagnose quickly and deliver practical solutions for high customer satisfaction
Training
Full training, personal protective equipment and company equipment will be provided to ensure you are fully competent and confident.
