Generative artificial intelligence (AI) describes algorithms that can be used to produce new content, including audio, code, images, text, simulations, and videos. It is developing all the time and is now being used as a support mechanism for all kinds of content-based creations. Please note the use of AI is monitored and if applicants have used it then they are required to declare this.

The Bristol Paediatric Simulation Programme (BPSP) and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) are seeking a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Simulation and Paediatric Intensive Care from September 2026.

This post is split 50:50 between simulation-based training, teaching and research and clinical duties in PICU and there may be the opportunity to work within the WATCh transport service. The BPSP is a vibrant programme offering simulation courses in the UHBW Simulation Centre (BMSC) and a point of care programme at BRHC and Weston Hospital.

The Fellow will be part of a team in the Simulation Centre and the primary learning and development focus of the fellowship is on paediatric simulation education.

The PICU is a 18 bedded unit providing full intensive care services to the Southwest of England and cardiac surgical services to the Southwest and South Wales. BRHC is a designated paediatric trauma and burns centre and all specialties other than transplantation operate on site. The post would involve clinical duties on PICU and with the regional transport service WATCh.

Applicants must have completed a minimum of two years of training in their base specialty (ST3 equivalent) and may come from a Paediatric, Anaesthetic, Intensive Care or Emergency Medicine background.

This post is also suitable for more senior doctors who wish to gain intensive care or transport experience.

The Bristol Paediatric Simulation Programme is one of the executive arms of UHBW Simulation Services.

The BMSC was the first training facility of its kind in the UK. It is based in the UHBW Education Centre, directly opposite the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. It was established as a joint venture between the United Bristol Healthcare NHS Trust and the University of Bristol and was initially funded by the Charitable Trustees for the United Bristol Hospitals, but is now wholly affiliated to University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. It remains unique as one of the most successful clinical simulations centre in the world.

The BPSP is committed to enhance patient safety and quality of health care delivery through the integration of multi-disciplinary simulation based education through application of simulation based education in its four strategic pillars; Education, Quality Improvement, Clinical Governance and Research.

A carefully created bidirectional relationship between the BPSP and BRHC Clinical Governance pillars (Audit, Clinical Effectiveness Committee, Risk, Patient Safety and Patient Liaison Service) quality assures the SBE delivered by both informing and critically evaluating the educational impact of the BPSP educational content. Thus providing an integral vehicle for the BRHC’s strive for excellence in clinical practice and improved patient outcomes.
