Clean Water Process Engineer – Principal to Associate Director
Location: Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, or Glasgow.
Position: Principal to Associate Director – Water Engineering.
We are looking for an experienced Clean Water Process Engineer to join our Water Engineering teams and deliver process design for water and water‑reuse projects across the UK and overseas.
Responsibilities
* Produce process design deliverables including optioneering studies, process calculations, mass balances, flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation drawings, sketches, and basis of design reports.
* Take lead on outline and detailed process engineering design activities.
* Attend site visits for data acquisition and meet with site operators.
* Provide technical input to the procurement process and support Project Managers in technical discussions with clients.
* Engage with technology providers and vendors; attend HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, and SWIFT sessions.
* Supervise and coach junior staff, providing technical guidance and reviewing their work.
* Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure integration of process engineering requirements into overall project design.
* Contribute to proposals, work scopes, schedules, and budgets.
* Maintain client liaison, ensuring their requirements are met and expectations exceeded.
* Travel to operational works and construction sites as required.
Qualifications
* Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering (or MSc).
* Professional registration as CEng (or working towards chartership within 12 months).
* Significant experience in process engineering design for infrastructure projects, preferably in the municipal water industry.
* Ability to work independently and prepare high‑quality technical reports, specifications, and procurement documentation.
* Experience with optioneering studies, feasibility, concept, and detailed design for clean water treatment (examples: bottom‑hole clarification, DAF, rapid gravity filtration, disinfection, taste & odour removal, chemical dosing).
* Strong time‑management skills and capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for senior audiences.
* Confidence in leading multidisciplinary meetings and acting as the technical representative to clients.
* Commitment to travel and site visits as project demands.
