This Band 6 development post offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated Band 5 or Band 6 nurse with a special interest in gynaecological oncology to develop the knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities required for a CNS role. The postholder will be supported to work towards the full competencies expected of a Band 7 CNS, with regular supervision, training, and mentorship from the established CNS team.
On completion of the competencies, this role would become a Band 7 post at equivalent hours (18.75hrs per week).
Main duties of the job
1. Support patients and colleagues at breaking bad news and through the investigation/staging pathway
2. Contribute to the personalised care of the patient.
Provide appropriate information and advice to patients and others affected by cancer
3. Provide a responsive service to queries and concerns - being able to triage and make appropriate clinical decisions, working within your limitations referring to senior colleagues as necessary
4. Signpost and refer to services appropriately, such as counselling, and palliative care
5. Provide support to junior members of the team
6. Liaise effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary teams, including oncology, respiratory and tertiary centres.
7. Provide cross-cover across disease site teams as required
8. Work effectively and collaboratively with the CNS teams across UHSx and with our partner organisations
9. Be a support and mentor to junior staff members
10. To actively contribute to service development
