Application Support Engineer – 6-month contract – Fareham My Customer is looking for a proactive Application Support Engineer to join their team and play a pivotal role in the discovery, support, and maintenance of their bespoke in-house application portfolio. This is a hands-on technical role, ideal for someone with strong SQL experience and a natural curiosity to understand how business applications support operations. Key Responsibilities for the Application Support Engineer: Discovery Phase: Work closely with business users and the Project Manager to explore and understand the existing in-house applications. Business Engagement: Liaise with stakeholders across departments to build a comprehensive picture of the application landscape and how each system supports business processes. Application Support: Provide day-to-day support for a range of bespoke applications, identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner. Script Execution: Run scripts (primarily SQL/DB scripts) to support application functionality, perform data fixes, and maintain system integrity. Database Administration: Carry out basic database admin tasks, including backups, performance monitoring, and routine maintenance. Documentation: Create and maintain documentation for supported applications, scripts, and processes. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve system performance or simplify support processes. Skills required from the Application Support Engineer: Proven experience in an application support or software support role. Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write and execute complex queries and scripts. Experience working with relational databases (preferably Microsoft SQL Server). Previous exposure to DBA tasks (backups, performance tuning, troubleshooting) is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with non-technical users. Self-starter with a keen interest in understanding business operations and systems. The Application Support Engineer is required 4/5 days a week onsite in Fareham.
