General Manager

DSV is recruiting for the role of General Manager, reporting to the Regional Director at Mercia Park.
The General Manager has overall responsibility for leading a team to provide high-quality service for all customers based out of the DSV Solutions Mercia Park and Stoke-on-Trent locations. The role involves implementing regional/site plans, operational structures, and site/customer-specific procedures as determined by the Senior Management Team. Additionally, the General Manager ensures the site meets performance standards set in the key result areas of the business.
Key Tasks
1. Ensure the site implements effective and efficient management of all operating systems and procedures in line with the Company’s guidelines.
2. Monitor the performance of the site in the key result areas and review ongoing results, taking remedial action as needed.
3. Maintain all buildings and equipment to maximize their value and ensure compliance with legal and safety requirements.
4. Manage the site’s financial accounts and implement effective financial control procedures, including quarterly forecasts, budgets, and financial reporting.
5. Control all overhead budgets for the site to maximize profitability in line with business plans.
6. Oversee recruitment, training, development, and discipline of all personnel, maintaining liaison with HR.
7. Ensure employees work to the required standards and are assessed through regular performance reviews.
8. Monitor ongoing performance of direct reports and embed employee engagement and appraisal systems.
9. Promote the good name of DSV Solutions through professional conduct.
10. Communicate regularly with staff about developments affecting the company.
11. Support continuous improvement programs at the site.
12. Maintain liaison with the Business Development team to recruit new customers and develop existing accounts.
13. Review operational and financial performance regularly via meetings.
14. Manage risks associated with high-profile customers proactively.
Duties / Responsibilities
* Comply with all company policies, procedures, legislative requirements, and codes of practice.
* Keep company business confidential.
* Maintain professionalism and promote a positive image of the company.
* Adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards, including OHSAS18001 and ISO 9001:2008 quality standards.
* Ensure work areas are secure and well-maintained, challenging unauthorized presence when necessary.
* Participate in development training to meet Investors in People standards.
Skills and Competencies
* 4 GCSEs or equivalent / 3 A Levels or equivalent
* Degree qualification (desirable)
* CPC National/International
* At least 5 years in senior operational management, with 3 years managing large multi-user operations
* Significant budgeting and financial reporting experience
* Excellent Microsoft Office skills
* Leadership skills with a track record of exceeding goals
* 2 years of continuous improvement experience (Lean/Six Sigma)
* Ability to lead and motivate teams
* Highly motivated with a positive attitude
* Strong organizational and planning skills
* Excellent communication skills at all levels
* Driving license
