Ward Overview
Ward 33 is a 23‑bedded orthopaedic trauma ward that delivers fast‑paced, forward‑thinking care within a diverse directorate. It works collaboratively across the Orthopaedic Department.
Patient Population
Patients range from frail and elderly individuals with delirium and a variety of acute medical conditions to younger patients with complex orthopaedic needs and social backgrounds.
Responsibilities
The role involves admitting patients directly from ED, caring for orthopaedic day‑case patients, and ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, compassionate, person‑centred care. Key duties include:
* Providing safe, effective, and timely care in a busy acute ward environment.
* Participating in admission and discharge planning to maintain patient flow.
* Working collaboratively with medical staff, therapists, and wider support services.
Shift work will be rotational, covering day and night duty as required by the service.
Training & Development
Basic training will be provided, with opportunities to gain experience across the Orthopaedic Department, including the elective orthopaedic ward and dedicated fractured neck of femur ward. Successful candidates may develop the following clinical skills:
* Patient vital sign observations
* Blood glucose monitoring
* Venepuncture
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in delivering person‑centred care and possess an acute clinical background. Full training and support will be offered. Additionally:
* Experience or interest in acute clinical care is advantageous.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage competing demands.
* Excellent communication skills are essential for facilitating admissions and discharge planning.

Additional Requirements
A willingness to complete an SVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) is essential for this role. Ongoing support will be provided to enable successful completion. Candidates must also become members of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme prior to appointment.
