Site Assistant – Independent School
Salary: £20,000 – £22,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent, part‑time, all year round
Hours: 1pm – 6pm, Monday to Friday (25 hours per week)
Start date: As soon as possible
Our client is a highly regarded independent preparatory school in Windsor and we are looking for a dependable and proactive Site Assistant.
About the role
This is a practical, hands‑on role within a small and friendly site team, supporting the maintenance, safety and smooth running of the school premises.
The Site Assistant will help to maintain the buildings and grounds to a high standard, ensuring that the environment is safe, secure, and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.
Main responsibilities
* Carrying out general repairs and maintenance tasks around the school site
* Supporting with small carpentry, painting, decorating and basic plumbing jobs
* Assisting with gardening and outdoor maintenance
* Conducting basic vehicle checks and helping with school transport when needed
* Manning the school gate during afternoon pick‑up to help keep pupils safe
* Working alongside the Premises Manager and cleaning team to ensure a high standard across the site
This is a part‑time, year‑round role (Monday to Friday, 1pm to 6pm). Some flexibility may be required for occasional weekend or evening work to support school events.
Person specification
The successful candidate will be practical, reliable and able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
Essential requirements
* Experience in a maintenance, caretaking or site support role
* Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and gardening tasks
* Good awareness of health and safety
* Full, clean UK driving licence
* Positive attitude and willingness to take initiative
Desirable
* Previous experience in a school or similar environment
* MIDAS qualification or willingness to complete the course
