Join Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution team as a Project Communications Officer and help deliver critical infrastructure that powers communities across the region. This is a site‑based role that requires four days a week on site at the Cambushinnie substation in Stirling.
To support the delivery of effective, timely, and engaging communications for the Cambushinnie 400kV substation project—an infrastructure upgrade enabling increased power transmission to the south of the UK and supporting the expansion of Scotland’s renewable energy network—this role will work closely with project teams and the customer to ensure clear, consistent communication across the project. The project involves construction of a new 400kV outdoor AIS substation at Cambushinnie and modification works at the existing 275kV Braco West substation.
What you’ll be doing
* Ensure accurate audience data and segmentation is available and continually managed in line with GDPR to achieve successful communication delivery and measurement.
* Manage an ongoing pipeline of content to successfully deliver a monthly project newsletter.
* Engage with site teams to capture stories, milestones and key updates to build trust with the local community and key external stakeholders.
* Work closely with project managers and Balfour Beatty Helpline/client customer service teams to facilitate resolution of all project‑related enquiries/complaints in a prompt and professional manner.
* Coordinate and participate in project‑led community relations events—including public exhibitions, community meetings and liaison working groups.
* Deliver proactive community communications activity including letter drops, newsletters and presentations to internal stakeholders, customers, local businesses, residents and schools/colleges to update on project delivery impact, milestones and challenges.
* Write internal and external award submissions and case studies to promote our people and project.
* Ensure project communication channels, tools and platforms are regularly reviewed and updated with appropriate content—SharePoint site, digital totems, distribution lists, presentation packs, etc.
* Work closely with the Balfour Beatty Group communications team to share content that can be published across corporate channels.
* Coordinate project‑related employee recognition activities to highlight positive customer accolades, behaviours and operational milestones.
* Coordinate production of photographs and videos to demonstrate project progress and achievement.
* Interface with the Group Communications team on reputational risks and opportunities that can impact the UK brand, ensuring awareness and escalation when needed.
Who we’re looking for
Essential
* Experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field.
* A proven track record of delivering a positive end‑to‑end customer experience.
* Confident engaging with external customers and stakeholders face‑to‑face.
* Excellent writing, storytelling, and presentation skills.
* Ability to interpret technical information from a variety of sources and translate it into simple, engaging written communications.
* Team player who adapts positively to changing stakeholder demands.
* A self‑starter with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting deadlines.
* A clean driving licence and willingness to travel.
* Computer‑literate and proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
Desirable
* A bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education/industry‑recognised qualification in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field.
* Membership of CIPR, IOIC, CIM, or another recognised industry body.
* Experience working on construction/civil engineering infrastructure projects.
* Good understanding of the regulatory environment in construction/rail/utility industries.
