We have a seasonal position available for an equine medicine and neonatology fellow in our hospital. The desired start date is the 27th July 2026 and the position will run until the 20th December 2026. The position will be hospital based with exposure to a large number of intensive neonatal and adult equine medicine cases guaranteed. The successful applicant will work alongside five equine medicine specialists to provide a high level of veterinary care to critically ill neonatal foals, adult horses, and post-operative patients. We admit approximately 800 medicine cases to the ICU per year, of which more than 200 are critically ill neonatal foals. The on-call roster is a 1 in 3 roster for weeknights and weekends and the fellow will be provided support from an equine medicine specialist for all on call duties. Participation in weekly journal club rounds will be expected. The position would be suited to a candidate in pursuit of an equine medicine residency position who has completed an internship programme, a medicine resident who has recently completed their training programme, or a current ECEIM medicine resident in an alternate programme. A research project is encouraged.

Scone Equine Hospital is the largest equine veterinary practice in Australia, employing approximately 40 equine veterinarians during the breeding season. We have support from a large team of senior veterinarians, specialists and experienced equine nurses. Available equipment includes a 3m video-gastroscope, video-endoscopy, dynamic endoscopy, ultrasound machines, a Telemetric ECG, digital radiography, computed tomography, and full diagnostic laboratory.

Scone is in the heart of the Thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia. It is a beautiful part of rural Australia located close to major regional cities and is approximately 3 and ½ hrs drive north of Sydney.

The applicant must meet the necessary requirements to be registered with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales.

In order to apply for the position, applicants should send a Curriculum Vitae, a list of three referees, and a cover letter to Lesley Hayward: Lesley.Hayward@sconeequine.com.au

Application deadline for this position: 30th January 2026
