We are seeking a Technician to support an RVC-Industry research collaboration to develop a phage-bead technology for detection of mycobacteria. The research will further optimise and generate validation data of an existing phage-bead system to determine the range of pathogens, limit of detection, sensitivity, and specificity of the assay, to further the technology towards commercialisation. The role will involve processing of clinical samples and application of a phage-based and molecular assays. Experience in basic microbiology, aseptic technique and molecular biology would be beneficial – experience with bacteriophage would be a bonus. The post-holder will also be expected to understand the application of the technology and be able to think critically to support its development, through application of appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses and identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise. They will be able to select, follow, and adapt experimental protocols, gather, analyse, and present scientific data from a variety of sources, and communicate results in oral and written format to supervisors and industry collaborators In addition, the post-holder will be expected to communicate effectively and enthusiastically with all relevant team members, attend regular meetings with the project supervisors and commercial partners, and participate in University activities such as, training workshops and lab meetings. They will assist in maintaining a safe working environment by attending basic and specialist health and safety training as required, support general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables, and follow Good Research Practice and Ethics policies as applicable to the work.
