FIXED TERM / SECONDMENT FOR 12 MONTHS
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced, and highly motivated registered practitioner to join our Clinical and Professional Development Team to educate and support staff working in NHS Borders’ acute and primary care settings. The post holder will support the clinical education team to meet clinical practice needs for Registered Practitioners, Healthcare Support Workers and multi‑professional staff groups. This includes design, planning, implementation and evaluation of Clinical Skills Education for Staff who are involved in direct patient care.
SERVICES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The core responsibilities include:
* Cognitive or ‘thinking’ skills such as clinical reasoning and decision‑making.
* Non‑technical skills such as team‑working and communication.
* Technical skills such as IV Therapy, Venepuncture and Cannulation.
* Assess and benchmark clinical education supporting the development of new/extended clinical roles and new ways of working, primarily nursing and medical education.
* Interpret and assess complex organisational and clinical practice needs aligned to current research, professional college guidance, best practice statements, national drivers and legislative requirements to inform organisational planning.
* Provide ongoing support, specialist education knowledge and advice to clinicians, promoting research and evidence‑based practice.
* Plan, design, monitor and formally evaluate the effectiveness of clinical development activities to ensure provision of a quality service meeting the standards of the department.
* Undertake educational/clinical practice audit relevant to role and maintain accurate databases of Staff undertaking enhanced role courses.
* Project‑manage local implementation of clinical service initiatives through multi‑disciplinary working to ensure effective achievement of priorities.

PVG Scheme Membership & Criminal Record Check
Employers will require the post holder to have a Protected Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult), an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, your appointment will be subject to joining the PVG Scheme. Any changes will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team.
