Director of Public Health, NHS Grampian

Salary: £107,144 to £142,369 per annum plus Band B Director of Public Health Supplement or Senior Manager F (£106,955 to £141,596 per annum)

NHS Grampian is the third largest teaching health board in Scotland, with a healthcare system which extends across city, towns and remote and rural landscapes. We have very strong links with the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University, and provide tertiary services to the people of Grampian and residents of neighbouring NHS boards. Acute services are provided from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and from Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin. Services in primary and community care are organised into three Health and Social Care Partnerships in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

With a strong corporate role across the whole NHS Grampian agenda, this role is the chief source/conduit of expert advice to the Board and their partners on protecting and improving the health of the population, reducing inequalities in health and wellbeing, delivery of key public health goals and ensuring NHS Grampian are suitably prepared for major emergencies affecting the population.

The role leads and directs the Directorate of Public Health; ensuring staff are supported and professionally developed and that Health and Care planning is needs led and focused on services which will be safe, effective, equitable and sustainable, cost-effective and consistent with targets, whilst promoting academic excellence and continuing learning/development.

NHS Grampian’s current strategy, Plan for the Future, developed collaboratively with partners, colleagues and the public in 2021-22, sets out our commitment to balance the established health board role of responding to ill-health with that of promoting wellbeing in support of improved population health outcomes. This strategy is the backbone of transforming the health of our population.
