Cardiac Physiologist - Apprentice

To work and study as an apprentice healthcare scientist
To develop skills to provide the diagnostic and technical services of the Cardio-Respiratory Department for the Warrington and Halton Hospitals specialties.
Main duties of the job
1. Recording and interpretation of 12‑lead Electrocardiograms and alerting medical staff to adverse results requiring urgent medical intervention.
o Participating in the provision of ECG cover to external sites as required.
2. Application of 24‑hour ambulatory ECG recorders and multiday event recorders, including analysis of clinical data and production of written reports.
3. Application of 24‑hour ambulatory BP monitors, including analysis of clinical data and production of statistical reports.
4. Assisting with both medical and technical supervised Exercise Tolerance Tests.
5. Performing basic lung function tests, including administering meter‑dosed inhalers and nebulised medication as instructed by the requisitioning practitioner, and becoming competent in full lung function tests.
6. Application of sleep monitors, including analysis of clinical data and production of written reports.
7. Developing competencies in invasive monitoring techniques in the Coronary Angiography Suite.
8. Supervising and organising ATOs and trainees when required, consulting with senior physiologists as necessary.
9. Participating in the training of students and ATOs.
10. Maintaining appropriate CPD and remaining current with developments in the field of Cardiology.
Person Specification
Experience
* Previous experience of working in the NHS or a healthcare setting.
* Experience working with people of all ages.
Qualifications
* Minimum entry requirements to enrol on the university course.
* First aid / BLS certification.
Skills, knowledge and competencies
* Knowledge and some understanding of cardiac diagnostic tests.
