Principal Software Engineer (PLC) Location: Barrow, Cumbria (1-2 days on site each month) Duration: 12 months Rate: £50 per hour PAYE or £67.47 per hour Umbrella We are looking for a Software Engineer to be involved in designing, developing, and delivering cutting edge systems for the world's most advanced military submarines. Our client is recruiting a Software Engineer to join the Integrated Systems PMS C&I team to be based at their site at Barrow In Furness, Cumbria. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be able work to recognised industry standards to produce innovative, high quality software products. Working within a multi-disciplined team and utilising a variety of tools and programming languages, you will engage in all aspects of the software development cycle from requirements elicitation through design, development and test. As a senior member of the team, you will be able to take responsibility for your own and others work as well as provide technical assistance to support the development of junior members of the team. You will take a lead during assurance and review activities ensuring that all required configuration, release and documentation activities have been produced in accordance with the relevant standards. This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on major, high profile engineering programme for Submarine Platforms in design and build, enabling you to interact with a number of internal and external stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence. Your main responsibilities will involve: Requirements elicitation and expression. Translation of requirements into a software design. Implementation of the design. Test design, development and execution. Integration. Configuration, Release and Deployment of the product. Proven Ability / Key Skills Essential Degree or equivalent in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related subject. Proven ability working as a software engineer in a similar or related industries for example Aerospace, Nuclear, Oil and Gas, Rail and Automation. Knowledge of one or more software development lifecycles (i.e. Agile, Waterfall etc). Knowledge of engineering standards (ISO-12207, IEEE-61508 etc). Knowledge of Siemens PLC (TIA Portal), Rockwell PLC or GE PLC (Mark 6). Desirable Able to lead small software teams or technical specialist within a software team. Additional information Due to the sensitive nature of the product all applicants must have worked within the Defence / Military industry within the last 12 months or be capable of obtaining Security Clearance (SC level minimum).
