Join Birmingham Children’s Trust in our mission to make Birmingham the greatest city to grow up in. As a Senior Court Officer, you’ll play a vital role in representing children and young people throughout court proceedings, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
About the Role
You’ll be part of the Youth Justice Service Court Team, delivering statutory responsibilities under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. This is a hands-on, in-person role based at Victoria Law Courts, requiring daily attendance and occasional weekend/bank holiday work on a rota basis.
Key Responsibilities
* Represent children in Youth, Magistrates, and Crown Court settings
* Liaise with professionals, caregivers, and judiciary to assess safeguarding and placement needs
* Prepare and present bail packages, enforcement reports, and breach/revocation documentation
* Promote diversion from court and advocate for children’s best interests
* Provide specialist advice and contribute to service development
* Support and mentor Court Officers, ensuring quality assurance and compliance
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to performance monitoring
What We’re Looking For
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in youth justice or youth court work
* Strong understanding of safeguarding, court procedures, and multi-agency collaboration
* Confident communicator with excellent report writing and presentation skills
* Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and bank holidays
* Preferred: Qualified candidates (but non-qualified with relevant experience will be considered)
