Dual‑CCT Consultant – Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia
We are looking for dual‑CCT Consultants to join an established, enthusiastic team of 12 Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine to expand our workforce and deliver service improvements.
Unit Overview
The ICU is a 20‑bed mixed‑dependency unit admitting 1200–1400 patients per year from a range of specialties, including a regional gynaecological cancer service, maxillofacial surgery, urology and vascular surgery.
It is supported by a 16‑bed Surgical Step‑Down unit staffed by Anaesthesia, a respiratory support unit and a medical high‑dependency unit. A Critical Care Outreach Service and a dedicated team of Specialty Doctors and Associate Specialists also support the unit.
Our Consultants have interests in echocardiography, ultrasound, medico‑legal issues and high‑fidelity simulation, and the ICU has a simulation suite. The unit is accredited for advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine.
Main duties of the job
* Full‑time 10 PA posts; candidates who wish to work less than full‑time are welcomed and will be supported in line with service needs.
* Provide ICU care in a busy 20‑bed unit, supported by side‑grade and trainee cover both in and out of hours.
* Take responsibility for the anaesthetic component of the ICU care plan in collaboration with the Assistant Clinical Director, tailored to areas of interest and service need.
* Use the unit’s ultrasound and echocardiography equipment, including TOE and TTE capability and Echo PACS.
* Lead staff training via the high‑fidelity simulator and contribute to the internationally advertised ICU echocardiography course.
* Occupy office space on the unit with shared secretarial support.
