Job Purpose
This role is to facilitate a student working across the campus and in the wider community. A key aim is to support and guide the student to develop their independence. They will work closely with tutors and the AND team to ensure that effective provision is in place to meet the student's needs in line with their EHCP. The Personal Assistant will ensure that the voice of the student is heard and central to their experiences.
Key Tasks:
* To accompany the student around and between campus buildings, supporting the student to understand social situations and guide them on appropriate responses as required.
* To deliver 1:1 academic and emotional support in class
* To liaise with tutors and other staff regarding the needs and progress of students receiving support
* Understand and be familiar with the therapeutic strategies as specified by their Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) and work with the staff team and external agencies to ensure they are integrated in daily practice
* To promote the welfare of children and young people at all times and ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed.
* Help the students develop and practise social skills, facilitate interactions and help develop appropriate relationships.
* To build a supportive relationship with parents and carers to foster a strong and trusting partnership, enabling the student to have a meaningful and successful experience
* To establish and maintain positive, firm, professional and consistent boundaries that support the student to reach their full potential.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Maths and English Grade C or equivalent
* Experience in working with and supporting children or young people in an educational environment
* Ability to collaborate with others and work within a team
* Clear written and oral communications skills
* Ability to manage own time and tasks
* A positive and flexible attitude
* Patience and empathy for others
* Reliability, creativity and integrity with problem solving and willingness to try
* High levels of emotional literacy and resilience
Desirable:
* Qualifications in - First Aid, Child Protection, Safeguarding, Behaviour Management, Autism, Special Educational Needs
* Knowledge of young people's therapeutic, development, health and educational needs.
* Experience of working with students with specific learning difficulties such as Autism/ ADHD/.
* Experience of music in education - knowledge of music, music theory and musical software
