An exciting opportunity has arisen at Particology Ltd for a highly motivated Research Associate to contribute to a UK-wide initiative aimed at driving improvements in the efficiency and sustainability of medicines manufacture.
Company Description
Particology Ltd is a contract research and development organisation co-founded by a passionate group of science enthusiasts with a sustained desire to make a difference. We understand the criticality of de-risking solid form selection, optimising particle engineering, and understanding the link between particle properties and product performance. From our state-of-the-art facilities in Sandwich, UK, we provide lab and consultancy services tailored to meet customers' needs, timelines and budgets.
We pride ourselves in building a highly supportive environment, where Colleagues' ambitions are nurtured, and individuality is encouraged. We support a flexible workplace culture which is essential to maintain work-life balance and encourages everyone to be their authentic selves.
Role Description
As a Research Associate, you will play a lead role in the implementation of new, state-of-the-art photonics-based PAT tools to monitor crystallisation processes during Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) development and manufacture. The role would suit a candidate with the drive to deliver high-quality solutions in line with regulatory standards, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
The successful candidate will be based onsite at Discovery Park in Sandwich, Kent.
Funding is available for an initial 18-months with the potential for a further 18-months on review.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive solid-state characterisation using advanced photonic techniques (IR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Visible Light Imaging).
* Design and execute crystallisation experiments to identify optimal solid forms of drug-like molecules with favourable physical and chemical properties, using both industry standard and novel technologies.
* Interpret complex analytical data and provide recommendations on form identification and size analysis from multiple techniques.
* Present findings internally and to third parties, address technical queries related to solid-state aspects of compounds and their on-line measurement during scale-up processes.
* Provide scientific guidance and technical feedback on adapting novel technologies for use in API development.
* Contribute data to machine learning models in collaboration with third parties.
* Maintain accurate documentation of all experimental work in compliance with quality standards.
* Contribution to multiple author publications with opportunities to be the lead author.
Role Requirement
Essential
* Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Materials Science, or a related field.
* Demonstrated expertise in solid-state characterisation techniques, specifically spectroscopic methods (IR, Raman).
* Strong knowledge of crystallisation processes and principles of solid-state chemistry.
* Excellent data analysis skills with understanding of relevant statistical concepts.
* Strong project management capabilities with the ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
* Experience working collaboratively.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly to stakeholders.
Preferred
* A good understanding of off-line and online particle sizing techniques along with experience in microscopy.
* Experience with computational approaches to predict properties of solid forms (e.g., HABIT, Materials Studio, Mercury, CosmoTherm).
* Understanding of the relationship between solid-state properties and crystallisation techniques.
* Experience with single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques.
* Track record of curating data to support development of predictive tools.
What We Offer
* A collaborative, inclusive environment focused on scientific excellence and innovation.
* Company bonus scheme
* 25 days' annual leave + Bank Holidays
* Enhanced employer's pension contributions
* Investment in professional development and learning
* Fresh fruit, tea, coffee, and snacks in the office
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to prove that they have the right to work in the UK.
