Contract Specialist – Contract Hand-Back & Transitions
We are seeking an experienced Contract Specialist to play a key role in managing contract hand-back and termination activities. The role focuses on ensuring contractual obligations are fully met during contract transitions, supporting a controlled, compliant, and well-governed exit process across multiple contracts.
This position is central to coordinating exit activities, managing risk, and ensuring that all contractual, legal, and technical requirements are satisfied at the point of contract expiry or termination. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and a broad range of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate contract hand-back and termination activities across multiple contracts
* Ensure contractual obligations are met in line with agreed terms, legislation, and best practice
* Work with internal teams to confirm compliance with contractual, statutory, and lifecycle requirements
* Develop, maintain, and manage the contract hand-back programme and associated risk register
* Identify, monitor, and manage risks, issues, dependencies, and mitigations throughout the exit lifecycle
* Ensure the accuracy and completeness of hand-back documentation, including:
* Operation and Maintenance manuals
* Compliance certificates
* Asset and maintenance records
* Lifecycle and statutory documentation
* Coordinate and track actions required to support an orderly hand-back process
* Provide regular reporting on contract status, risks, progress, and milestones
* Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to manage interfaces and resolve issues
* Support governance, assurance, and audit activities related to contract exit
* Capture and share lessons learned to support continuous improvement
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
* Proven experience in contract management, including contract expiry, transition, or hand-back phases
* Good understanding of contract law and contractual compliance requirements
* Experience working within complex contractual environments (e.g. long-term service or partnership contracts)
* Strong programme or project management capability with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
* Confident communicator able to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
* Ability to interpret technical, legal, and contractual documentation
* Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
* Proactive problem-solver with effective risk management skills
