Overview
As a Patient Transport Aide, you will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients and specimens throughout the facility, ensuring quality care and efficient patient flow.
Responsibilities
* Transport patients using wheelchairs or stretcher/bed transport, ensuring safe handling to prevent falls.
* Transport patients to and from units or imaging modalities within expected time frames, ensuring the patient's chart accompanies them.
* Maintain regular communication with Dispatch, Modality, and Units regarding task receipt, changes or delays, and completion.
* Safely handle patient support apparatus such as IV pumps, oxygen tanks; remove unsafe or unclean equipment and perform oxygen tank exchange.
* Obtain supplies from central supply as requested when applicable.
* Follow established isolation protocols, PPE use, and hand‑washing techniques.
* Use two patient identifiers to correctly identify patients; follow proper protocol for patient expirations.
* Transport specimens to the laboratory and deliver blood and blood products timely; follow protocols for specimens.
* Collect slides for physicians to review as requested.
* Use automated systems promptly and accurately to aid patient throughput.
* Lift a minimum of 10 lb, push and pull a minimum of 50 lb, and stand throughout the shift.
* Identify the needs of patient populations (age, culture, language, hearing, vision) and modify care accordingly.
* Assist with environmental duties such as recycling/trash pickup, linen removal, and proper disposal; adhere to cleaning requirements.
* Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications
* High School diploma, GED, or equivalent program.
* Strong social skills; communicate appropriately to alleviate patient fears and anxiety.
Compensation
Minimum hourly rate $17.32. HMH provides a competitive total rewards package including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
