We are the Anglian Water @one Alliance, a collaborative organisation of eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO) and our extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. We are preparing for AMP 8 to deliver a programme larger than we have before, driving change, enabling growth and development, and providing career progression opportunities.
To enhance our ability to develop an optimal programme portfolio for delivery, we are looking for a talented Project Commercial Manager. As we move into this exciting period for the Water industry, it is essential our commercial and cost management processes remain industry-leading to ensure we not only deliver but outperform against our objectives and customer expectations.
What will you be doing as our new Project Commercial Manager?
You will be accountable for the commercial and cost management of a project or programme of projects from inception to close out, reporting directly to an Integrated Projects Leader (IPL), ensuring maximum efficiencies are obtained and full compliance with all Alliance and Anglian Water governance procedures. You will provide a commercial challenge to the IPL and team on all project matters.
Responsibilities
* Management of Commercials: ensure robust estimates aligned to scope; manage and support commercial and procurement strategies with the Senior Buyers to ensure tender processes are followed correctly; ensure subcontracts are properly prepared, reflect the agreed scope, and are managed in accordance with contract.
* Robust Cost Management: provide accurate live forecasting considering the project programme; monitor actual costs against baseline estimates and challenge variances; provide reports on actual costs versus estimates and identify underlying reasons for variances and resolutions.
* Contract Management: administer the Alliance contract; oversee timely issue of early warnings and advise the IPL on compliance matters; ensure proper records are kept for audits and cost assurance; ensure final accounts are prepared timely and accurately.
* Project and Programme Risk: ensure mitigation plans are in place and implemented; proactively manage opportunities and realise them; monitor identified efficiencies and report variances to the IPL; report any withheld, disputed or disallowed costs to the IPL.
* Team Leadership: lead and manage a small team; mentor and develop team members.
Qualifications and Skills
To be considered, ideally you’ll be educated to degree level and hold RICS/CIOB/CICES certification. You’ll have demonstrable experience managing complex projects up to multi‑million pound values. You’ll be robust, able to manage change, and comfortable challenging decisions. Experience with NEC contracts, negotiating and estimating, and outstanding stakeholder management skills will help you stand out. You should have a high level of integrity and fairness, act as the commercial conscience of the IPL, champion collaboration and open communication, and lead with a strong commercial focus. You should work well under pressure with a forward-thinking mindset and be able to lead and support your team with a supportive, empathetic approach and strong stakeholder relationships.
