Our BSc in Accounting and Finance with Foundation Year provides a comprehensive foundation in accounting and finance, equipping students with essential technical, quantitative, communication, and information technology skills. The program emphasizes decision-making processes of managers, shareholders, and stakeholders, and offers exemptions from professional bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, and ICAS, subject to module completion.
The course begins with a foundation year (year 0), enabling progression to year one of the BSc program. Designed for students lacking traditional entry requirements, the program is delivered on the University of Leicester campus alongside other students who are slightly below standard entry criteria.
Students will be taught by expert academic staff and will develop both professional and personal skills vital for their careers. The foundation year includes community integration, access to university facilities, support services, and a dedicated personal tutor. The curriculum covers finance, accounting, management, economics, and basic statistical skills, preparing students for advanced modules in subsequent years.
In the second year, students specialize in topics such as corporate finance, investment management, audit, and assurance, alongside advanced management and financial accounting. The research methods module prepares students for their dissertation, with optional modules allowing further specialization.
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, and varied assessments like essays, exams, presentations, and group activities. Independent learning is encouraged through self-study, library research, and project work, supported by campus facilities.
Students will be taught by experienced staff, including PhD research students and those with teacher training. Staff expertise is aligned with module content, and research informs teaching quality.
Additional options include a Year in Industry, a Year Abroad, and study abroad opportunities, which enhance practical experience and cultural understanding. The Year in Industry involves securing placements with support from the Careers Team, with reflection and assessment to recognize learning outcomes.
The program is accredited by professional bodies such as ICAEW, with exemptions for seven examinations, and offers a pathway to professional qualification and employment prospects. Tuition fees vary, with specific costs for foundation years and international students, and are subject to inflation adjustments.
