Job Description
As a Consultant or Principal Consultant in our Operations and Safety team, you will work alongside senior experts and collaborators across WSP, integrating your strategy development skills with technical domains such as energy, roads, rail, and active travel to deliver tailored, high-impact solutions for our clients. You will play a key role in shaping and delivering strategic programmes and contribute to a wide range of strategy development projects for national and local government clients, building a varied and diverse portfolio of experience.
A Typical Week Would Include
* Working as part of project delivery teams centred in strategy, innovation and transformation, ranging from assessing feasibility, developing business cases and outlining benefits of long-term visions and strategies for local and national transport operations.
* Working with clients to shape strategic direction, develop investment cases and provide clear, evidence-based advice to support policy decisions and deliver their objectives.
* Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across WSP to ensure specialist domain knowledge is effectively captured and reflected in strategic advice.
* Managing client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor, with accountability for the quality, clarity and robustness of outputs.
* Contributing to the growth of the Strategy Development capability to support delivery against its ambitions, helping drive delivery and business sustainability.
* Sharing knowledge through internal and external thought leadership.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
* Technical capability in the development and delivery of strategic plans, visions and roadmaps for local and/or national bodies.
* Experience of working collaboratively with government, research and commercial partners.
* Strong communication skills (e.g., able to translate technical requirements into clear, actionable advice to achieve buy-in from a wide range of stakeholders).
* Demonstrable experience of quantitative and qualitative analysis.
* A proven track record in a consultancy role or ability to demonstrate the aptitude and skills required to provide excellent consultancy support.
* An analytical and inquisitive mindset with a keen eye for detail.
Additional Desirable Skills
* Development of, or familiarity with, Green Book compliant business cases (SOBC, OBC, FBC).
* Translation of technical, operational and analytical inputs into clear structured business case narratives aligned to client objectives.
* Data analysis, statistical or modelling experience, including strong Excel skills.
