Manual Test Engineer
The Manual Test Engineer will be responsible for validating enterprise networks with a strong emphasis on SD WAN, LAN/WAN, Wi Fi/VPN connectivity, and application reachability across segmented networks. The role includes planning and executing test scenarios, capturing evidence, defect logging, and working closely with network engineering, security, and operations teams.
Key Areas of Testing
1. SD WAN Testing
Validate overlay/underlay connectivity and policy‑driven path selection across SD WAN fabric. Test application‑aware routing (AAR), traffic steering, and performance SLAs (latency, jitter, loss) across multiple transports (MPLS, Internet, 4G/5G). Verify BGP/OSPF adjacency where applicable between SD WAN edges and core/branch networks. Validate failover/failback, brownout/blackout scenarios, and packet loss remediation (FEC, packet duplication). Confirm segment/VRF isolation, zoning, and policy enforcement at branch, DC, and cloud on‑ramps. Execute pre‑ and post‑change validations for template/policy updates and software upgrades on SD WAN controllers/edges.
2. Network Testing (Enterprise)
Perform LAN/WAN testing: DHCP, DNS, routing reachability, NAT, ACL/firewall policies, QoS marking and trust. Validate Wi Fi SSIDs (corp/guest), 802.1X, RADIUS flows, roaming behaviour, and RF performance. Test VPN (site‑to‑site and remote access) connectivity, split tunnel policies, and app reachability. Measure latency, jitter, throughput, and packet loss; compare against baseline and SLAs. Collaborate with network/security teams to collect packet captures, controller logs, and device telemetry.
3. Test Management & Reporting
Create test plans, test cases, and RTM aligned to change requests and release plans. Execute functional, regression, integration, and resiliency tests; log defects with clear repro steps and evidence (captures, logs, screenshots). Produce daily/weekly status, entry/exit criteria reports, and Go/No Go inputs. Maintain audit‑ready evidence aligned with change/incident management processes (ITIL).
4. Governance & Security
Adhere to security guidelines for SC eligible environments (data handling, access control, evidence storage). Follow CAB processes and ensure that all changes have test coverage and rollback validation.
Candidate Requirements
* Candidates must be eligible for SC (Security Check) clearance; active SC clearance is preferred.
* 3‑7 years of manual testing experience with strong network testing exposure.
* Hands‑on experience with SD WAN (any major vendor such as Cisco Viptela/Catalyst SD WAN, Fortinet, Prisma SD WAN, Aruba/HP, Silver Peak).
* Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, routing (OSPF/BGP basics), NAT, ACLs, QoS.
* Familiarity with Wi Fi (WPA2/WPA3, 802.1X), VPN, and segmentation/VRFs.
* Comfortable with packet analysis (Wireshark/tcpdump), route/flow verification (traceroute, pathping, mtr), and controller/edge logs.
* Exposure to test management tools (Azure DevOps, JIRA, ALM) and basic SQL for data checks (nice to have).
* Soft skills: strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset; methodical test execution. Clear written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with network, security, and ops teams. Meticulous documentation and evidence discipline under time‑bound change windows.
* Eligibility for SC clearance requires: 5 years of continuous UK residency; clean criminal and financial/credit history; willingness to comply with government security processes.
