Job overview
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Design Technology (DT) Teacher to join our high performing DT team at the University Collegiate School (UTC). This exciting role offers the opportunity to inspire and motivate pupils across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, fostering creativity and innovation through practical and engaging DT lessons.
Teach across a range of Technology subjects at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, Design Technology, Engineering, Food, 3D Design, Art and Photography. Teach KS5 BTEC Engineering.
Contribute to the continued growth of Design Technology as a popular subject through the delivery of well planned, engaging lessons, the use of high-quality resources, and the design of a creative curriculum.
Work collaboratively within a supportive and well-resourced and modern department, with specialist classrooms and strong cross-curricular and employer links.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver well-structured DT lessons across KS3, KS4, and KS5, following the school curriculum and schemes of work.
* Inspire pupils to develop skills in design, technology and problem-solving.
* Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress and attainment.
* Collaborate with the DT team and wider staff to enhance the curriculum and pupil development.
* Contribute to the preparation of pupils for external examinations.
* Promote a safe and stimulating learning environment.
* Participate actively in school events and professional development opportunities.
* Participate in continuous professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest pedagogical approaches and technological advancements
Requirements:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Degree in a relevant subject
* Proven experience in teaching Design Technology
* Strong subject knowledge and understanding of the latest curriculum and assessment requirements
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with pupils, parents, and colleagues
* Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
* Commitment to promoting the safeguarding and well-being of children.
* Genuine interest in the suite of design subjects on offer.
* Practical experience in Design Technology, Product Design and/or Engineering
Desirable Qualities:
* Experience in leading or coordinating Design Technology initiatives within a school setting
* Familiarity with a range of educational technologies and their effective integration in the classroom
* Ability to provide professional development and support to other teachers in the use of Design technology skills and knowledge
* Passion for staying up-to-date with the latest trends and innovations in the field of educational technology.
* Understanding of the importance of employer engagement.

The UCS is a University Technical College encompassing Key Stage 3 and 4, along with a sixth form provision.
The UCS has an outstanding facility for 11 to 19 year olds which includes specialist laboratories. Our facilities uniquely inspire and motivate our students to succeed in their studies and propel their careers forward.
To accommodate the growing student numbers, a new £17million extension is underway and is scheduled to open in September 2025, along with our Multi Use Games Area which opened in September 2024, providing an incredible space for our students and the local community to engage in a wide range of sports and activities.
