About the role
Peer support is based on the recognition that there is no better person to support the path towards recovery than someone who has walked the same path and overcome some of the barriers to recovery.
The peer support worker will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to Service Users, for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. The peer support worker will come alongside a service user through their journey and assist them when taking initial steps in several areas, dependent on the stage of their personal recovery. For example, recovery activities, volunteering and getting involved in their local community.
Peer support workers will be hosted by VCSE organisations and work as part of the teams within CPFT and in collaboration with other agencies. Peer support workers engage with service users to show empathy, share experience, inspire hope and promote recovery with the aim of assisting service users to gain and maintain independence in the community.
The peer support worker will assist service users in raising aspirations and developing personal goals.
The role of Peer Support worker has been designed specifically for those who have lived experience of mental health challenges. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, they will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
1.2 To establish a supportive and respectful relationship with service users, sharing own narratives to raise aspirations to access opportunities.
1.3 To support service users in developing in other areas and skills.
1.4 To support service users to take ownership of their recovery and wellbeing.
1.5 Share experiences of using the mental health services with staff, carers, friends, and family of Service Users
1.6 Ensure that Service User's recovery goals are codesigned with them.
1.7 To attend and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings as required.
1.8 To work under the regular supervision of Mind supervisors and guidance of other professional colleagues
1.9 To participate with peer training and monthly meetings with the peer support working networks
1.10 To actively take responsibility for own health and wellbeing, through working upon own wellness plan/advanced statement and discussing/reviewing within supervision as necessary
1.11 To be willing to develop self, through specialist training opportunities, as agreed with team supervisor and team manager.
1.12 To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest standard and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the work area.
1.13 To undertake other duties as may be required suitable to the banding of the post.
1.14 Work with supervision with clearly defined policies, protocols and any appropriate professional guidelines.
1.15 To work flexibly as required by the individual and the employer, which may require some working out of normal office hours.
1.16 Make sure any information heard is kept private and confidential.
1.17 Frequent exposure to distressing and emotional client experiences and circumstances

2.0 Draw upon own lived experience to inspire hope, model self-awareness and facilitate service users in developing their own resourcefulness, for managing their health and wellbeing.
2.1 Be able to plan your days to meet the needs of the individuals and the team.

2.5 Able to share own experiences whilst always retaining professional boundaries.
2.6 To support the service user in finding opportunities for people in their local area.
2.7 To assist with the provision of advice and guidance in relation to education, training, and employment.
2.8 To undertake all work respecting the need for confidentiality in line with Mind policies.
2.9 To be able to plan and prioritise workload effectively with supervisors.
2.10 To keep clear and concise records using Lamplight to record all client work.
2.11 To ensure compliance with all company health and safety policies and procedures.
