Location: Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, Edinburgh
We are looking for a retail focused, proactive and approachable leader with excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills, who can motivate and support a team, deliver outstanding customer service, and ensure high standards of presentation and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
* Staff Management – oversee all aspects of the retail team, ensuring a consistent 5-star visitor experience by monitoring performance, providing training and support, managing scheduling and staffing, and handling minor disciplinary matters. Lead by example, mentor new recruits, support team leaders, and act as a reliable point of contact for staff issues.
* Shop Floor – ensure the gift shop and all retail areas are safe, compliant, clean, and fully operational; coordinate with maintenance and management as needed. Support seasonal decorating, basic maintenance, delegating tasks, and stepping in for till operations and daily management duties when required.
* Operations – oversee shop cleanliness, stock presentation, and deliveries while ensuring food safety and proper rotation. Support the Retail Manager by identifying sales opportunities, contributing ideas, and leading projects to enhance the visitor experience and boost sales.
* Customer Service – act as the main point of contact for customer complaints, resolve issues promptly and courteously, support affected staff, and escalate to management when necessary.
* Emergencies/Security – be prepared to handle emergencies, administer First Aid, respond to suspicious behaviour, and ensure staff follow proper cash handling, till, and security procedures.
* Communication – maintain strong relationships across departments, share feedback with the Retail Manager, manage customer enquiries and mail orders, and ensure effective communication. Attend and contribute to retail and management meetings, representing the Retail Manager when required.

The attraction is a ‘must-visit’ for families and adults from all over the world and due to its popularity has the longest opening hours of any attraction in Edinburgh.
Camera Obscura is an award-winning attraction and has recently won the Scottish Thistle Award for Hospitality and Tourism Employer of the Year as well as the Trailblazer Award from Living Wage Scotland. The attraction holds a Gold Green Tourism Award and a regional Thistle Award for Climate Action.
