About the Role
Join Oxford Languages and contribute to the ongoing revision and updating of the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) and other Oxford Languages dictionaries and lexical datasets. In this Editor role, you will carry out primary lexicographical work, which includes conducting lexical research and analysis, revising existing content, and creating new content. You will research the history and usage of words through primary textual evidence, using electronic databases, dictionaries, and other sources, and analyse patterns of usage through lexical corpora and large language models.
You will construct paragraphs of quotation evidence to illustrate the history and typical usage of words, revise and draft editorial text to explain meanings, origins, and histories, and contribute to projects aimed at making targeted improvements at scale across the OED text. Some projects involve the innovative application of new and emerging language technologies, including AI. You will also review the work of other editors, collaborate with colleagues, and develop new skills as working practices evolve.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
