Job Title: Clinical Fellow in Anaesthetics
Two full‑time posts commencing August 2026, Grade: Medical & Dental, 40 h per week including 1 in 8 on‑call commitments to the ICU or theatres (EWTD compliant).
Responsibilities
* Provide anaesthetic care across 12 main theatres covering specialties such as General and Vascular Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial and Dental, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Urology, Orthopaedics and Trauma.
* Assist in the 4‑theatre Day Surgery Unit, 2 theatres and recovery bay in the labour ward complex, and the ICU with 22 level‑3 and level‑2 beds.
* Perform daily clinical teaching in theatres and weekly teaching sessions on the unit, organised and supervised by Consultants.
* Support the Medical Emergency Team with resuscitation, transfer and intra‑hospital transport.
* Conduct high‑quality research and development projects in collaboration with Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.
Qualifications & Experience
* CT3 equivalent, with support to complete all key competencies set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
* Paediatric anaesthesia experience for children aged five and over.
* Experience in Total Intravenous Anaesthesia (TIVA) and regional anaesthesia, including ultrasound‑guided techniques.
* Obstetric anaesthesia, minimum 3 months experience, including management of ASA 3 parturients.
* Resuscitation, transfer, and pain‑management exposure, including access to pain management clinics.
* Three months experience in an adult ICU for core level trainees.
Training & Support
* Named educational supervisors and access to teaching sessions and departmental quality‑improvement meetings.
* Support with Primary or Final FRCA exam preparation, including the SLAP (South London Anaesthetic Primary) course.
* Encouraged to undertake exams and contribute to in‑house teaching.
On‑Call Commitment
1 in 8 on‑call shifts covering theatres or critical care units, in accordance with the EWTD shift system.
Research & Development
Strong encouragement and support for participation in high‑quality research and development projects.
Reports to the Anaesthetic Lead and Divisional Lead.
