Role Overview
Sperry Marine is a leading supplier of navigation, communication, information, and automation systems for commercial marine and naval markets. Headquartered in the United Kingdom, we have an extensive international presence across Europe, the Americas and Asia, employing almost 400 people across ten countries.
We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead and further develop our UK Software Engineering Team. In this role, you will guide the team in delivering high‑quality software solutions for our marine radar products, ensuring robust processes, strong cross‑functional collaboration, and on‑time delivery across the software lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
1. Lead and develop the UK Software Engineering team, setting direction and supporting growth.
2. Act as the key interface between Software Engineering and other technical disciplines.
3. Coach and mentor engineers, ensuring effective performance management and career development.
4. Build a culture of technical excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.
5. Ensure software projects are well‑estimated, planned and delivered on time, managing risks and removing blockers.
6. Maintain and evolve software development processes, documentation, coding standards and testing practices.
7. Oversee code reviews and release discipline to ensure high‑quality output.
8. Collaborating closely with amongst others: Product Line Management, Quality, PMO, Systems Engineering, System Test, Hardware/Mechanical and Technical Publications teams on priorities and technical/quality issues.

9. Strong experience in software development and leading engineering teams.
10. Able to work collaboratively across disciplines and represent Software Engineering in internal and external technical discussions.
11. Comfortable driving corrective action processes and contributing to field‑issue investigations.
12. Degree‑qualified in a software‑related discipline (or able to demonstrate equivalent proven experience).
13. A great people leader with the ability to build trust, engagement and team cohesion.
14. Technically capable and able to bring structure, clarity and direction to complex work.
15. A clear and confident communicator, able to summarise and report on complex work, with strong cross functional influence.
