About your new role
The Association of British Insurers have reported that motor insurers detected 51,700 motorscams in 2024 worth £576million. In view of the ongoing threat posed by insurance claims fraud, it is more important than ever that insurers, self‑insured entities and other private or public bodies have a trusted legal services provider to help them to detect, defeat and deter such scams and many such entities chose Weightmans to do just that.
We are recruiting for an experienced Motor fraud Solicitor to join our team in Liverpool or Manchester.
Main duties and responsibilities
* To manage a caseload of suspected fraudulent motor insurance claims on behalf of insurers, self‑insured entities and other private or public bodies.
* Initially review fraud concerns, liability and quantum before devising a strategy for continued handling and investigation;
* Specialise in acting on behalf of various insurers, self‑insured entities and other private or public bodies, protecting their interests
* Assist the Team Manager and other team members with their cases, client development, client training and networking.
* Help to devise handling and KYO strategies.
* Liaise with various parties such as other solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel and clients
* Attend at court hearings as appropriate
* Draft various documents such as letters and reports
* Satisfy standards of client care in accordance with guidelines and directions
* Complete Client MI procedures
* Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
* Comply with relevant rules, policies and procedures
* Keep up to date with legal developments
* Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You
* Ideally you will have previous experience and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have/be;
* You will be a Qualified Solicitor
* Experience of handling a case load of litigated motor files, preferably as a Defendant and ideally, within a Counter fraud team.
* Credit hire experience
* Sound knowledge of CPR and relevant portals and procedures.
* Ability to work to meet deadlines and hit targets
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
* Excellent communication skills
