An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic nurse to join the colorectal service as a clinical nurse specialist in stoma care.
The stoma nurses in Hywel Dda care for patients before and after emergency/elective colorectal surgery. This role involves clinical care delivered within acute/community hospitals, nurse-led clinics, patients' homes, and nursing/residential homes. Advice is also provided by telephone to patients, carers, and GPs. The team works within a multidisciplinary setting.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the specialty and/or wound care, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and enjoy teaching—an important aspect of this role. Mentorship will be provided by experienced specialist nurse teams, and relevant level 6/7 education will be undertaken. Previous experience in surgery or gastro-enterology is advantageous.
This is a substantive Band 6 position, 37.5 hours per week. The base location is Bronglais General Hospital, with travel expected to other hospital sites and community locations.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialist advice and nursing care for patients in acute/community settings and nurse-led clinics.
* Support patients undergoing stoma surgery and assist with adjustment to body image and function.
* Promote patient independence in stoma care, supporting recovery and rehabilitation.
* Serve as a resource for healthcare professionals, teaching patients and staff to improve care standards.
